SUMMARY:Cafe Sci: Sleep for Performance\, Resiliency and Health With Scott Kutscher\, MD.
DESCRIPTION:Due to public health restrictions in light of COVID-19\, Caf Sci is going virtual for the foreseeable future. Sleep affects us all in a variety of ways some obvious\, some subtle. There has been an increasing awareness of the importance of sleep in recent years\, but despite new technologies to measure and understand it\, quality sleep remains an elusive target\, even for those who study it closely. In this online talk\, Dr. Scott Kutscher will review the impact of sleep on health and well-being in different areas from large populations to the elite performance of professional athletes and how we can apply this to our own lives. Dr. Kutscher is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University\, where he has worked in the division of Sleep Medicine\, under the department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences\, since 2016. He is board-certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine and\, since 2011\, his career has focused on the relationship between sleep and human performance\, with a particular focus on athletes. Dr. Kutscher conducts clinical research on the impact of fatigue on performance and concussions\, works regularly with amateur and professional athletes to improve their sleep and creates educational content to support professionals in health care and other industries to promote healthy sleep. This presentation will be available on SBC's YouTube channel at a later date. Check out some of our past Caf Sci presenters on our YouTube page here: youtube.com/user/stanfordbloodcenter.
