BAPPF: Business and PublicPolicy Forum

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 9^th, noon-1PM at Boston Private Bank (420 Cowper) when we will take up two matters important to the health and safety of our community:
 

•          Enforcement efforts regarding quality of life ordinances, such as public urination/defecation, smoking, open container, etc. We will hear from the City Attorney’s office and possibly a police officer may talk about PAPD’s work on the street in the Downtown and on Cal Ave areas, and the City Attorney will explain what happens in court and after. The City Attorney is eager to hear the business community’s observations and concerns.

•          City Commercial Recycling and Compost Ordinance – overview and compliance options. Keeping materials out of the landfill is the key goal for the City’s Zero Waste program. While many businesses have been diligently sorting their recyclables and compostable materials for years, other businesses have elected to not participate in the City’s voluntary waste diversion programs. The proposed commercial recycling and composting ordinance would require all businesses to both subscribe to recycling (free) and compost service (discounted) and, most importantly, also sort their waste properly. In additional to proving a basic outline of the ordinance, we will be asking businesses to help us identify the best methods to ensure compliance and what barriers may prohibit compliance.
