Expect the unexpected Nov. 23 with Redwood Symphony

Redwood Symphony’s flair for the unusual is on full display with a concert that includes film scores, outer space and fiery Mexican folk themes on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Main Theater at Cañada College, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City. “Rather than featuring a soloist, the orchestra itself is being showcased in five virtuosic works by some of today’s most exciting composers,” Maestro Eric K said. “The opening work, Carnival Fever, sets the tone for this kinetic concert.” Film music including the Academy Award-winning suite from The Shape of Water by Alexandre Desplat and composer Rachel Portman’s suite from Cider House Rules lend an introspective mood to the concert, said the maestro. “ We spice it up with the bravura of Aaron Copland’s exciting El Salón México based on Mexican folk themes after we take you into the realm of outer space, disco and electronica in Bay Area composing sensation Mason Bates’ dazzling B-Sides,” said Eric K, who will give a free pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m.
