Redwood Symphony Concert

The program opens with Benjamin Britten's "Four Sea Interludes" from his opera "Peter Grimes". The Interludes are highly dramatic and impressionistic portraits of the sea that form the psychological theme of the opera. Redwood Symphony will glance back 100 years with an idyllic rendering of the American South when it presents Samuel Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915". Soprano Hope Briggs will assume the voice of a young James Agee, the poet who wrote the nostalgic, dream-like evocation of a summer evening in his childhood hometown which Barber used to create a work for voice and orchestra. Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 will conclude the evening's performance.
